Developmental Milestones

My 2.5 year old son is extremely shy the moment he steps out of house. He would try to cover his face when any outside person tries to speak with him. He just want us to keep him carrying and doesn't want to walk while we are outside our house. Any tips on overcoming this? ... more

The main step as a parent we need to take to improve his social skills is to take him out often, arrange for play dates with kids of his age. The more the interaction with people and kids, the child will improve on his social cues. Nothing to worry at all he is quite small and each kid is unique, we should not compare him with other kids and create stress for him and for ourselves. Comparison through verbal and body language will effect the child self-esteem which in turn effect the social skills. Does the child go to preschool? If yes pls wait he
will improve, if not pls join him in one.

Thank you for the reply. Yes he does go to the preschool. In spite of he going to the preschool, he is not comfortable to get along with new people he would come across.

How long is he going to preschool? If the child is using too much of screen time try to reduce it and bring him in co tact with new people often, like a stroll in a park, playing in neighborhood and first let him get comfortable with his classmates. Choose 2 kids and arrange once or twice a week play dates with them. Let him become comfortable with few. Pls then observe how is he moving.

8 months is a good time, dont worry he will improve if you reduce the electronics time and bring in contact with known kids often. Each kid takes their own time.
